Madekwe is from a multi-cultural household. Her birthplace was in South London. She has a mother who is English and her father is Nigerian. Her family was raised in the south of a London community estate, where she attended The Brit School at age fourteen. She was a student of acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, London. While at school she appeared in numerous stage plays, like King Henry V's Princess Katherine as well as Wuthering Heights.
Madekwe's acting journey began in the series Storm Damage. In the years since, she's had guest appearances in films like Teachers, Doctors Casualty Drop Dead Gorgeous. Madekwe's debut film appearance was in Woody Allen's 2007 Cassandra's Dream opposite Colin Farrell, Ewan McGregor. Her success resulted in her being cast as Elisha in a one-off BBC Three drama West 10 LDN pilot. Later, she appeared in six episodes Trexx & Flipside as Ollie. In 2008, she was cast as Bambi, the lead role on ITV2's drama Secret Diary of a Call Girl. Madekwe was also the title character in How to lose friends & alienate people, which was released by Sony Pictures Entertainment back in 2008. She has performed on the screen in Little Sweet Thing, by Roy Williams, and Flight Path which was written composed by David Watson.
Madekwe was chosen to play Ashley Davenport on ABC's Drama The Beautiful Life. The two-episode series aired for just 2 weeks at The CW and then it ended. Ashley Davenport appeared in ABC drama Revenge as of February 2011. Madekwe was a regular on the ABC drama series Revenge during two seasons. It was revealed in May 2013 that she'd be leaving the series following an appearance in the first series of the 3rd. In 2014 and 2016, she starred in the role of Tituba the television series Salem. Her long-time friend, Iddo, married Madekwe in June of 2012. They collaborated on Secret Diary of a Call Girl. Goldberg also appeared with Madekwe in Salem.

Ashley Leggat is a Gemini-nominated actress, who was born into a big family. Her parents were Patty and Roy Leggat. Ashley Leggat joined Roy and Patty as well her older siblings, Brett, Todd and Bram as well as Rob. Ashley's brothers, who are all athletes, play baseball in summers and played hockey during winter. Ashley could never walk but she was able to dance. As she was two and a half, she started Baby Ballet and fell in love. Ashley began to be a dancer after this. Until she graduated from High School, Ashley danced competitively in the highest divisions of tap, jazz, ballet, pointe, acrobatics, musical theatre, lyrical, and hip-hop. Ashley won the best soloist award at every major dance event, such as International Dance Challenge, Showstoppers, 56-7-8 Showtime, Flash Dance, Dance, Dance, Dance, to name just the few.
